Lyrics
Description
(Chanted Chorus - deep, rough voices)
Heave, ho! Heave, ho! Raise the banners high!
The lion roars, the ravens fly, Britons live, and never die!
(Verse 1 - Lead Pirate, gritty tone)
The sea be dark, the skies be red,
Our foes shall quake, their blood be shed.
With cutlass sharp and cannon's roar,
We sail to war on ocean's floor.
(Chorus - All Pirates with call and response)
Leader: Raise the red-cross high!
Crew: Raise the red-cross high!
Leader: Britons live, and never die!
Crew: Britons live, and never die!
(Verse 2 - Tenor voices, echoing)
The ghosts of fathers guide our way,
Their bones beneath the soil lay.
We swear this oath upon the tide,
No fear, no shame, no place to hide.
(Bridge - haunting tin whistle with bodhrán heartbeat)
Heave... ho... the waves do call,
Steel and fire, we give our all.
Storms may rage, the ravens fly,
But we be pirates till we die.
(Final Chorus - all voices, loud and fierce)
Heave, ho! Heave, ho! Raise the banners high!
The crown still stands, the storm still roars—
Pirates live, and never die!
(Coda - fading whispers and drone)
Never die... never die...
The lion’s oath, the pirate’s cry...
