Lyrics
Description
(Intro - Instrumental Jazz Quartet with Upright Bass & Saxophone)
(Verse 1)
Lord my God, in You I take my refuge,
Save me from those who hunt me down,
Rise up, O Judge of the earth, defend me,
For my soul trusts in You alone.
You search my heart and know my ways,
No evil is found in me,
Keep me safe, O righteous Lord,
From the plots of wicked enemies.
(Chorus)
Oh, the Lord is my shield, my strong defense,
He saves the upright in heart,
With justice He judges the nations,
In His righteousness, I stand apart.
(Instrumental Break - Piano Solo with walking bass and brushes on drums)
(Verse 2)
Let the wicked fall by their own devices,
Let their evil deeds be their snare,
For the righteous see Your face and rejoice,
In Your salvation, beyond compare.
God is my shield and my stronghold,
My heart sings out with praise,
He delivers the innocent and meek,
In His hands my spirit stays.
(Bridge - Scat Vocal Call & Response)
Scat Lead: Ba-da-bop, ba-da-bop, ah!
Response: Lord, defend, Lord, defend!
Scat Lead: Do-wop, do-wop, yeah!
Response: Justice reigns, justice reigns!
Scat Lead: Shoo-bee-doo, shoo-bee-doo, hey!
Response: Mercy flows, mercy flows!
(Chorus)
Oh, the Lord is my shield, my strong defense,
He saves the upright in heart,
With justice He judges the nations,
In His righteousness, I stand apart.
(Outro - Instrumental with saxophone soaring, gentle piano chords fading out)
Psalm 7, my jazz prayer, my refuge and my song,
In Your justice, I belong.
