Description
(Verse 1-spoken intro)
Louisville, Kentucky. A city steeped in tradition, where the Ohio River flows and the passion for red and black runs deeper than the current. From the hardwood to the gridiron, from the diamond to the track, the Louisville Cardinals have carved out a legacy of triumphs, heartbreaks, and unforgettable moments.
(Sung, with a driving, anthematic)
(verse 2)
From the Roaring Twenties, a whisper began to grow,
Of teams in cardinal red, putting on a show.
Basketball was first, a dribble and a shot,
Denny Crum's magic, a dynasty he brought.
'80 and '86, the trophies gleamed so bright,
A national champion's roar, burning ever so light.
Pitino's fire, then Mack took the lead,
The Yum! Center faithful, planting victory's seed!
(Verse 3)
The gridiron beckons, with thunder and with might,
Cardinal football rising, shining ever so bright.
From Fairgrounds Stadium to Papa John's grand stand,
Brohm's at the helm now, with a strong, guiding hand.
Lamar Jackson's brilliance, a Heisman in his stride,
Scoring touchdowns with flair, nowhere to hide!
Bowls and big wins, the crowds all stand and cheer,
Louisville football's here, year after year!
(bridge spoken verse 4)
Beyond the court and field, our prowess we display,
Baseball's crack of the bat, shining bright as day.
College World Series dreams, so close we have been,
McDonnell's leadership, a consistent, winning scene.
Women's basketball soaring, with Walz at the guide,
Final Fours they've conquered, with power and with pride.
Aces and spikes, across the volleyball net,
Track and field, setting records, you can bet!
(spoken outro)
Through seasons of glory, and challenges we've faced,
The Cardinal spirit, forever embraced.
A history woven, with grit and with grace,
Louisville Cardinals, holding a rightful place.
So raise up your voices, let the proud anthem ring,
For the red and the black, forever we will sing!
"Louisville First, Cards Forever!"
