Lyrics
Description
[Intro]
Hear the market drum, night smell of smoke and spice
Lantern light flicker, people gather, roll the dice
(Ad-lib: Eh! Woah!)
[Verse 1]
Under neon tarpaulin, children play by the stall
Old man hums a rhythm, traders answer to the call
Dem in their suits, counting paper in the high-rise
We got leaf in our pockets, fire in our eyes
This kush is more than smoke — it’s story, it’s medicine
It heals our wounds, it fuels our courage, makes the rhythm win
Dem want to silence voices, lock the mouths and close the gates
But every puff is louder now; every step a shaking plate
[Pre-Chorus]
Feel the drum, the beat like thunder (call: Boom!)
From the gutters to the marble, light we plunder (call: Light!)
Kush carry our songs, carry our names
Turn the fear into flame, turn the shame into change
[Chorus] (Punchy, short — Pidgin)
Kush dey destroy dem — watch am light up town (call: Destroy dem!)
Fire for night — we no go bow down (call: Never!)
Kush dey destroy dem — every corner, every street
We sing, we dance, we rise on steady feet
(Ad-libs: Eh! Ah! Woah!)
[Verse 2]
See the masquerade of power break when people gather near
Horns cut through the traffic, tambourine clap, no fear
A woman with a child smiles, passes the leaf to a friend
It ain’t just weed — it’s comfort, a vow that never ends
Dem are the oppressors, the system dressed in gold
They try to steal our harvest, tell our stories cold
But the kush bring us closer, share history with every breath
It’s unity in smoke — a small rebellion, a living text
[Pre-Chorus]
Hear the chorus build (call: Build!) — footsteps, handclap, shout
From backyard to rooftop, we push the darkness out
Kush in the circle, rhythm in the bone
Every heart a drum, every voice a throne
[Chorus]
Kush dey destroy dem — watch am light up town (call: Destroy dem!)
Fire for night — we no go bow down (call: Never!)
Kush dey destroy dem — every corner, every street
We sing, we dance, we rise on steady feet
(Ad-libs: Yah! Hey! Turn it up!)
[Bridge] (Drop to minimal beat — hush then build)
Silence for a moment — feel the embers glow (backup: Feel it)
Small flames become a bonfire, watch it grow (backup: Grow)
Leader: Dem think smoke hide our truth —
Group response: (No!) we know it wake the youth
Short call-and-response:
Lead: Who we fighting?
Group: (Dem oppressors!)
Lead: What we wield?
Group: (Kush and rhythm!)
(Ad-libs: Oya! Move!)
[Instrumental Break] (Horn riff lead, guitar lick, percussion solo — space for ad-libs: "Eh! Ah! Woah!")
[Final Chorus — Big; horns, layered harmonies]
Kush dey destroy dem — watch am light up town (call: Destroy dem!)
Fire for night — we no go bow down (call: Never!)
Kush dey destroy dem — every corner, every street
We sing, we dance, we rise on steady feet
(Ad-libs: Hands high! Eh! Woah!)
[Outro] (Bring tempo down slowly, leave a horn echo)
By the market, by the river, stories pass from hand to hand
Kush on our lips, courage in our step, we reclaim this land
Dem will remember when the night turned bright —
