Left… right… Double digits…
Left… right… Counting minutes…
I’ve been marching long roads, boots know my name Calendar got lighter, but the grind stayed the same
Used to feel forever like a permanent post Now I’m staring at the number like a personal ghost
Ten, nine, yeah, I see it drop Every day a little closer to the final stop
Used to say one day, now it’s right in sight Got a short-timers grin that I try to hide
I’m a double-digit midget, yeah, I said it out loud Got my days in a stack and I’m walking real proud
Ain’t gone yet, but I’m halfway free Counting down the clock while it’s counting me
Double-digit midget, boots still on But my mind’s already humming that civilian song
Don’t rush me now, I still play my part But the exercise breaking in the back of my heart
Funny how the time moves when it’s almost done Every formation feel like a rerun
Same old order, same parade ground But the wait feel lighter when the end comes round
You see me smiling, yeah, don’t ask why I’ve been packing up thoughts
I don’t even say out loud Little bit checked out, little bit here
Like I’m already gone, but I’m standing right here
I’m a double-digit midget, counting down slow Every sunrise closer to the hour the gate goes
I’m supposed to salute, still holding the line But I’m trading seconds like they’re finding mine
Double-digit midget, don’t blink too fast He’s the last few steps of a long road past
I ain’t quitting, just shifting the view From I’ve got orders to I’ve got options too
Oh, now you notice I’m moving light Same soldier, just last midnight
Same uniform, just fits different now Like I finally learned what it meant somehow
Yeah, I’ll sweep that floor, yeah, I’ll stand that post But I’m ghosting the weight I used to hold the most
Not disrespect, just math and time When the number gets small, everything feels like mine
Ten fingers up, then nine, then eight Every tick like a door unlock and fade
Used to count years, now I count days Used to grind forward, now I drift sideways
But I earn this drift every mile, every ache Every early wake-up that my bones still take
So, if I smile when I shouldn’t let it ride That’s a man seeing daylight on the other side
I’m a double-digit midget, yeah, it’s almost done From the first half mile to the final run
Still stand tall till they say I’m through But I’m already halfway somewhere new
Double-digit midget, say it again Not the end of the road, just the turning of the bend
Left, right, one last stretch in sight Then I step out the cadence into my own life
Left, right, double-digits Left, right, almost finished
