Driving down to Malibu
We take this road cause it′s my favorite view
Chocolate ice cream, we both hate strawberry
What else you still can′t get over me?
He says it′s sweeter cause the sunlight′s on me
We pick the films you′ve never seen before
His laughs are sounds you′ll never ignore
You call it déjà vu, but here′s my clue
There′s not a single piece of him left for you
We′ve got new jokes that make him laugh out loud
Our plans and dreams don′t need you around
You′re not a page in the book we read
We got a future and it′s all we need
We don′t think of you, not even once
Your name′s not spoken, it′s never pronounced
We′re living a story you′ll never see
A world that exists for him and me
The past is gone, it′s out of sight
No shadow remains when I hold him tight
Call it déjà vu, but that′s not true
Every beat of his heart belongs to something new
So when will you admit you′re out of mind?
A name that′s faded, left so far behind
He doesn′t see you in the things we do
No trace, no shadow, not a thought of you
You′re chasing echoes from a time that′s gone
While we′re too busy moving on and on
You call it déjà vu, but here′s the truth
We′ve never once remembered you
We′ve got new jokes that make him laugh out loud
Our plans and dreams don′t need you around
You′re not a page in the book we read
We got a future and it′s all we need
We don′t think of you, not even once
Your name′s not spoken, it′s never pronounced
We′re living a story you′ll never see
A world that exists for him and me
The past is gone, it′s out of sight
No shadow remains when I hold him tight
Call it déjà vu, but that′s not true
Every beat of his heart belongs to something new
You′re stuck in reruns, we′re in season new
We got the plot twist, nothing left of you
Every mile we drive, it′s a road you miss
Every kiss he gives, got a brand new twist
You′re shouting at ghosts, but we′re wide awake
Our love′s a real thing, not some old mistake
So keep your déjà vu, cause here′s the fact
He′s not looking back, we′re on a different track
We don′t think of you, not even once
Your name′s not spoken, it′s never pronounced
We′re living a story you′ll never see
A world that exists for him and me
The past is gone, it′s out of sight
No shadow remains when I hold him tight
Call it déjà vu, but that′s not true
Every beat of his heart belongs to something new
No déjà vu when he′s here with me
We′ve got our own roads and our own melody
No jackets traded, no old cliches
We′ve left those worn out habits far away
I know his secrets, you never got to learn
The way his heart beats, the way his smile turns
You think you knew him, but here′s what′s true
The man he is now is never with you
