Lyrics
Description
(Verse 1)
No form or beauty in our eyes,
A root from earth, he did arise.
No worldly grace that we'd desire,
To kindle our faith's dying fire.
A man of sorrow, pain he knew,
For all the grief we brought him through.
We thought his wounds were his alone,
A curse from God, on him was thrown.
(Chorus)
He is despised and rejected of men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief:
and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
(Verse 2)
But he was wounded for our wrong,
And crushed for all the sins we've sung.
The peace we sought was on his head,
Through his deep wounds, our souls were fed.
Like lost sheep, we had gone astray,
And on him all our guilt was laid.
Like a silent lamb, he gave no word,
To those who came against their Lord.
(Chorus)
He is despised and rejected of men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief:
and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
(Verse 3)
His spirit left the earthly stage,
A final chapter in life's page.
He went willingly to the grave,
The lives of many he would save.
He was then numbered with the thieves,
Whose lives were torn by their own leaves.
He poured his life out unto death,
And gave his final, living breath.
(Chorus)
He is despised and rejected of men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief:
and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
